Joe Dent of Everything Pets on following the franchise system: nobody hits 100 percent, and the partners who sit at 97 to 98 percent are the ones who thrive.
Joe Dent, CEO of Everything Pets, a division of Loyalty Brands, on following the franchise system, and why that one habit predicts who lasts.
Joe has spent more than three decades in retail and pet services, including 25 years in pet retail and a run overseeing operations across more than 1,200 stores. He now leads four brands: Zoomin Grooming, Salty Dog, Cooper Scoopers, and Hike Doggy.
In this conversation with Tullio Siragusa:
• FTS, follow the system, and the 97 to 98 percent rule
• Why improvising on a proven recipe usually weakens it
• The top ten practices each brand runs on
• Calling the customer after the hike, the groom, the lawn treatment
• Strategic partners, not franchisees, and what changes when you mean it
He is equally clear about the other half, which is that a system only earns that loyalty if the people running it are genuinely passionate about the work.
